PT&T ties up with US software firm

PUBLICLY-LISTED Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (PT&T) has announced its partnership with American firm VMware Inc. in its bid to enable businesses to manage their bandwidth usage.

PT&T said it sees VMware SD-WAN (Software-Defined Wide Area Network) solution as the “perfect complement” to its connectivity offerings as it enhances network quality and application performance, as well as simplifies support and troubleshooting.

“The inclusion of VMware SD-WAN in our product portfolio further strengthens the lineup of core business solutions aimed at continuously providing value added services to our customers,” said Ella Mae Ortega, general manager for information technology (IT) services and large enterprise at PT&T.

SD-WAN is considered as the “next big thing” in multi-site interconnect technology. It works by automating network discovery and configuration, and redirecting network traffic to the most reliable links. Some solutions also add security capabilities to allow optimally protected traffic.

VMware SD-WAN is characterized by a unique feature called “Dynamic Multipath Optimization,” wherein multiple WAN links can be simultaneously used, and on-demand remediation can be applied even on a single link to enable the best user experience.

In case of problems in WAN paths, it dynamically “steers” traffic to the best available route and also remediates links as required. Its zero touch provisioning feature helps remove the need for manual configuration of devices, giving users a truly plug and play experience.

VMware SD-WAN is a foundational component of VMware Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) Platform, which converges network services with best-in-class cloud security and Zero Trust Network Access to deliver flexibility, agility and scalability for enterprises of all sizes.

PT&T offers fiber internet and IT solutions to enterprise clients. It holds a 25-year franchise to establish, maintain and operate both wired and wireless telecommunications systems for local and global communication in the country.

According to VMware Marketing Senior Director Sasha Emmerling, their company is pleased to work with PT&T to serve enterprises in the region.

“While we in VMware strive to build and market world-class solutions, it is very important to have a trusted and capable local service provider like PT&T who understands the specific needs of enterprise and institutional customers in the Philippines,” she said.
